Inspiration of the week! The Magic Horse by Lotte Reiniger (1953)

Violet Darkling loses herself from time to time in the magic and mysterious stories created by the German animator Lotte Reiniger whose short silhouette animation films are pure sources of inspiration and delight. The highly creative author was fascinated with the Chinese art of silhouette puppetry to the extent of building her own puppet theatre so she could put on shows for her family and friends. Her passion did not stop there though as she left us a great collection of short animation films made to transport us back to our childhood.
If you have enough quirky curiosity to watch these black and white silhouette animations, interpretations of classic myths and fairytales such as One Thousand and One Nights, Wilhelm Hauff and The Brothers Grimm, then you should definitely start with ‘The Magic Horse’, which is an authentic and artistic interpretation of an extraordinary myth from the ancient city of Baghdad. Just remember to come back down to earth after watching these short inspirational art pieces!
