A programme reinventing childhood fairytales is exactly what I was waiting for. Writers Kitsis and Horowitz have
been inspired by classic fables to create this American series out of their love of mystery and excitement for exploring different worlds. The series is not about the typical damsel in distress; the story is set in modern day New England and unfolds a curious backstory of the character's previous lives.

Apart from the
intriguing storyline, what’s so fantastic about this series is the extravaggant costumes. It
takes me back to the romantic olden days where girls wore whimsical gowns and the men
looked dashing in their suits and armour. The gowns worn by Snow White (played by
Ginnifer Goodwin) have been given a modern twist with impeccable detail and
style. In contrast to Snow White’s innocent white feathery and lacy gowns, Regina’s (the Evil Queen) black bird-like
cloak and the sharply tailored brocade corset portrays a
rich and dangerous woman. Expect appearances from Red Riding Hood, Rumplestiltskin (he still freaks me out!) Cinderella, Jiminy Cricket and the Mad Hatter. Watch on Channel 5 catch up...
